Located between Monterey and Santa Cruz, California sits a house with features so eye-popping, its sale price is a whopping $1.4 million.
Dubbed a “one-of a kind sculpture house” in the listing, this home is far from ordinary. It was designed by a local artist with the intent to create an “organic-shaped structure and all-in-one living space,” according to a news release. Its style, as described by Coldwell Banker Global Luxury, is a “mid-century home with bohemian flair.”
The 4,792-square-foot space (priced at about $2,000 per square foot) features one bedroom and one bathroom. It also has a fireplace, concrete countertops, handmade glass tiles, a glass staircase and a 54-inch soaking tub that overlooks the garden.
“This one-of-a-kind residential sculpture represents a rare opportunity to not merely gaze at a work of art but to live in one,” says listing agent Nanette Schuster. “Within a block of the ocean bluff, the setting feels a world away, yet is conveniently located between Monterey and Santa Cruz.”
The monolithic home, located at 411 Playa Boulevard in La Selva Beach, California, was designed in 1969 by a Californian landscape architect and sits in a 5,000-square-foot garden, surrounded by exotic plants. It features views of the nearby Monterey Bay from the front yard and upper deck.
“The flowing, curving and organic shape of this special house is what first attracted me to it,” says Cynthia Williams, the current owner of the home. “I have since fallen in love with how the space makes me feel when I am in it; completely at peace and creatively free. It has been an honor to be part of the narrative of this home and add my own interpretation in the redesign of the space.”
