Christmas CANCELLED: Boris stops 5-day rule break for Britons as mutant strain explodes

Boris Johnson announces new restrictions over Christmas period

The Christmas period of relaxed coronavirus rules will no longer be allowed to go on, Boris Johnson has announced. The Prime Minister confirmed the update during a Downing Street press conference in which he also introduced a new Tier 4 level for London and the southeast of England. The changes are due to a new variant of the coronavirus which is proving to be “up to 70 percent” more infectious than the original strain.

He told the briefing: “We must, I’m afraid, look again at Christmas.

“As Prime Minister, it’s my duty to take difficult decisions and do what is right to protect the people of this country.

“Given the early evidence we have on this new variant of the virus, it is with a heavy heart that we cannot continue with Christmas as planned.

“In England, those living in Tier 4 areas, should not mix with anyone outside their household at Christmas.”
