In his first statement to the House as Health Secretary, the Bromsgrove MP is confirming Stage 4 of Boris Johnson’s roadmap cannot go ahead on July 5 and must wait for another two weeks. When the Prime Minister announced a four week delay to the roadmap earlier this month, he pledged to hold a two week review to see if the data was positive enough to bring forward the July 19 date.

The Health Secretary is eager to lift legal measures as soon as possible and said this morning there would be no more lockdowns.

“It’s going to be irreversible, there’s no going back,” he said.

“I want to see the restrictions lifted and life going back to normal as quickly as possible.

“Right here and now that is my absolute priority. I want to see those restrictions lifted as soon as we can, as quickly as possible.”
